An Offer on the house
Yesterday our realtor had a broker's open house after listing the house on the market Tuesday (5 days ago). Apparently a couple saw it with their broker and stayed for an hour. They made an offer today and we accepted it. It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but the timing is good, so it was good enough. We talked to our neighbors here in Newport who have bought and sold many nice homes over the last 20 years and they said we definitely did the right thing. They made a good point that in a couple of months of not paying the mortgage, taxes, etc., etc., we will have made up what we didn't get in the offer. That means that by August 1st we can start to see what difference it will make not having all those responsibilities attached to having a house on 3 acres that is way bigger than we need.
So, I am trying to remind myself as often as I can that this is a good thing although I am giving up my dream home. It had absolutely everything I ever wanted in a home and more. I know that it is time to move on though as hard as it is. It was really over 4200 sq ft with the sunroom but they can't put that on there as it doesn't have its own heating system, but it was truly a part of the house. I suppose that doesn't matter anymore. We are keeping the architect plans in case we ever want to recreate it; I am sure we won't, but I still want them. I am going to miss my kitchen so much. :( I can see where this is going, so I better stop for now. We will head back in mid May so I can finish packing and selling and purging, then after graduation we can head back to the Midwest and spend some time there with family and friends.
